How to Prepare
Your first visit to Laguna Retina typically includes a comprehensive retinal examination. Here is what to expect and what to bring.
What to Bring
- Photo ID and insurance card(s)
- List of current medications
- Referral paperwork from your eye doctor
- Any prior imaging (OCT, fundus photos) if available
- Sunglasses — your pupils will be dilated
- A driver if possible after dilation
What to Expect
- Allow 1.5 – 2 hours for your first visit
- Pupil dilation is performed at most visits
- Retinal imaging (OCT, photos) is routinely obtained
- Dr. Rudometkin will review all findings with you personally
- A written summary is sent to your referring provider
- Follow-up is scheduled before you leave
Frequently Asked Questions
Most patients are referred by their ophthalmologist or optometrist, and we are happy to coordinate directly with your referring provider. However, self-referrals are also welcome. If you have a retinal concern, please call our office to discuss your situation.
We accept Medicare, Aetna PPO, Aetna Medicare Advantage, Aetna/GEHA, Anthem Blue Cross PPO, Anthem Medicare Advantage, HealthNet PPO, HealthNet Medicare Advantage, La Salle Medical Associates, Partners Direct Health Plan, and self-pay. Please call if your plan is not listed.
Urgent cases — including sudden vision loss, new retinal tears, or suspected retinal detachment — are triaged for same-day or next-day evaluation. Please call the office directly at (949) 534-4000 for urgent concerns.
Intravitreal injections are performed with topical anesthetic eye drops and are generally very well tolerated. Most patients experience minimal discomfort. The procedure takes only a few minutes. Dr. Rudometkin will walk you through what to expect before your first injection.
Records and imaging can be faxed to (949) 550-1515, or sent securely via Klara to (949) 534-4000. Please do not send protected health information by email.
